Malaysian Mentality

i know not all countries are perfect, but it irks me that although we have first class infrastructure, we are laden with a third class mentality. when we see a foreigner, especially those westerners, i notice that they tend to be treated quite nicely, hence letters from tourists saying that we are such a helpful and friendly culture.

As a Malaysian i beg to differ. the survey did by reader's digest is right. we are one of the rudest people in the world.

how many of you say thanks to the person holding the elevator door for you?
how many of you would give up your seats in the train or the bus to an elderly person or a pregnant lady?
how many of you actually bother to line up properly and not push when boarding public transportation? tell me how many????
would you try to vacate a table at an eating centre as soon as possible if there are a lot of people waiting?
would you take your own time with getting your car out of the parking lot when you know there is someone waiting to park at that spot?
how many of you would hold the door open for the person who will enter after you??
how many of you actually stop your car at zebra crossings for people to cross?
how many of you stop you cars on the zebra crossing when the light changes?

not many. let me be honest.. from my observation, from having to study in the city centre of Malaysia i.e. Kuala Lumpur, i have noticed the inconsiderate natures of the Malaysians. it is a saddening state really, that Malaysians lack manners. and, oh do we really lack.

i take the LRT to college at least 4-5 times a week... when there is a pregnant lady or an elderly person... i noticed that the men.. mind you, young men, would not bother to give up their seat. 8 out of 10 times, it's the women that gives her seat up. usually those that give up their seats are those who are in about their 20s i suppose. there was many a time where i gave up my seat as well.. though sometimes, as i'm day dreaming, i was slow to realise, but when i do, i willingly give up my seat... unless i really don't feel well, as is sometimes the case for me, in crowded areas....

in college itself. when i hold the elevator door open for people out of let's say the 15 or so people in there, only one or two will say thanks. and even this is rare. it only happens 2-3 times out of 10.. the percentage is so low. it's always the same people who say thanks.. the others don't bother.. in fact, even the one nearest to the buttons, won't bother to hold the door, but just walks out ahead.... manners, manners..... they all lack it.

just yesterday at the LRT station, as i was touching my card to the sensor, this Malay lady behind me inserted her train card into my machine. obviously i can't pass through then. what did she say? "oops" and just pushed past me... totally and absurdly rude!! she could have at least said excuse me!!

don't parents teach manners to their children?? mine did... i wonder what is the percentage of parents that bother to ensure that their child has manners? it looks like it's very low.. out of the 300-400 people of my class, let me tell you how many have showed manners so far...

only about 10-20.. giving it the benefit of the doubt.. we make that 20.. 20 out of let's say 350 students [it's a discount here] that means we only have about 5.7% round it up to 6% of people who are polite in the class...

i also noticed that girls in my class tend to be ruder than the boys, they don't bother about holding the door or saying thanks if you hold the door for them. heck even an appreciative smile is welcomed. the elder men in the class, i.e mature students... only 1-2 of them are polite... the rest are plain rude, pushing past you etc.

the ones that are usually polite, are those who seem to be in their early twenties. imagine if my class was the population of Kuala Lumpur.. that would mean of the estimated 1.6 million [in 2006, we could have more now] population in the city, only 6% are polite enough, to give up their seats to people that need it. that's very saddening this means of the 1.6 million people only 96 000 Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur are polite... if it's compared to the state of Selangor, we have about 3.75 million people.. that would give us 225, 000 of polite people in Selangor....... not a very encouraging figure, although it is all speculation just based on the percentage of my class.....

still it irritates the hell out of us. just look at our drivers who think that they own the whole Malaysian road. impatient people, who can't even wait 2 minutes for the traffic light to turn green. cutting lanes without putting on their signals, accelerating when the car in front puts on the signals to change lanes. blocking pedestrians from crossing by stopping their cars and buses on the zebra crossing.

pushing people while boarding public transportation. what is even worse is: THOSE F**KING PERVERTS WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE of the congested situation to sexually harass people. among the people with no manners they are the worse, as they see females as nothing but sexual objects. the lowest of low, they don't even qualify to be categorised as living beings.

the LRT for example, even though there is a box indicating where passengers should line up. unless there is an officer around, like hell they care, these inconsiderate Malaysians. brainless as they are!! if passengers can't get off the train, what makes you think you can get on? even when i was in the London underground, people weren't that bad, they allowed you to get off first before getting on!!

mentality. a friend told me, while waiting for this person to vacate his parking lot, he was sitting in his car eating an ice cream! if you are going to eat an ice cream, then do it somewhere else, not in the parking lot, misleading people into thinking that you are going to vacate now, instead of when you are done.

eating at crowded places, we get those inconsiderate people, who take their own time to eat... fine, the benefit of the doubt is yours, maybe you just eat slow. but when there are people standing behind you, waiting for you to vacate, then please don't sit down there and chat. and the same goes to the people who are waiting, unless the person hogging the table, is doing exactly that, hogging, please don't give them death stares, just patiently and nicely wait for them to finish eating.

there are so many to mention that i would get an endless list..

but it really makes me wonder... what is wrong with the Malaysian mentality????? i noticed the ones that do seem to be somewhat polite, are especially those who have been overseas. that's not to say that everyone who has studied overseas came back polite or that you need to go overseas to learn your manners... only some of those who went overseas picked up the good habits from the westerners, mind you. there are still plenty that are rude... well maybe not as rude.. but still.....

what should we do to improve our manners?

i would say start at home... but then again, if you have rude parents.. i don't imagine the kids being polite.... schools can only teach so much.....

i really despise people like that, no respect and no manners. although we are all not perfect in learning manners and respect, at least don't press the horn on your car when i'm leading a blind man across the road. it's not my fault that the pedestrian signal only gives the blind man 20 seconds to cross the road..

it doesn't help that people are coming the other way blocking our path, plus not to mention some idiotic drivers who stop their cars on the zebra crossing!!

BAD JOKE!!

After a nice fulfilling dinner, i decided to check my email, as i check my mail at least once a day..
i have... a few email accounts by the way... so on my usual routine...

in case some of you don't know, i have an email account under yahoo, with the user name wscheong*19. it was opened years ago.. and it's sole purpose is for spam, and for registration of all sorts of forums and sites..

if you know me well, you guessed right.. it's mostly for my registration to anime and manga forums, so that i can get my fix. and we all know how much spam comes from such sites.. therefore, when i ceased use of this account, instead of terminating it, i decided to put it into good use...

i also give this email address to people that annoy me, [or whom I'm not very well acquainted] and to survey companies.. in other words, their email is considered rubbish/spam to me.. well if they do send..... it's mean of me i know, but when people just don't get the hint...[at least they can still contact me, it's still nicer than giving a fake address, and when they do get more acquainted with me, i direct them to another account...] we have to be evil sometimes. and i never did proclaim that i was some angel with a glowing halo.. yes, i admit i can be a nice person, but i can also be mean.[i personally prefer to think of it as protecting myself from potential psychos...] but i digress, back to the topic on hand..

so okay, i was checking the said email... when i noticed that i had a draft.... (for the computer illiterate people it means an email, which was saved, and unsent) so i was wondering..

huh? i don't use this account to send any emails, unless i wish to forward mails which i think are worth forwarding... well, some spam or forwarded stuff people send me.. if i had opened them, and if i felt that it was worth forwarding i would forward it.. and i haven't done so, with this account for at least a year? or two??

nevertheless, i gave it the benefit of the doubt.. i could have accidentally done something at 2am this morning.... so i clicked on it... it was addressed to me, without a title...

i got suspicious... i was tired but not that tired... afraid that it may be some virus thing, i hesitated before finally opening the draft only to be greeted by..... this...
-->

Hello Wei San,
Your email a/c had been cracked.
From now on, I'll will have access to your account.
No matter even if you change your password.
I'll be around to spy on your mails and all.
hahahhahahahahahahaa
from some one you know!!!!!

@@@
my first reaction? shocked! i definitely don't do nonsensical things such as this.. which means some idiot really hacked into my account...

if the guy (yes, for sure it's a guy, with not very good grammar, most likely a Chinese educated guy ...at least i hope it is a guy, i can't imagine a girl doing idiotic things like this, sorry if it's sexist, but to me, only guys would do things like this...) thinks that i will be impressed..

he was so damn wrong.. i was pissed... very pissed! it doesn't matter that this account doesn't contain any personal mail or whatever.

whatever it is, it's an invasion of my privacy. normal people with respect for others don't do things like this... so i wrote a reply in the same draft and left it there.. here is my reply to the idiotic fiend.

*****
dear cowardly imbecile, who can't even spell my name correctly, and dare not leave his name.

it's amazing that you managed to crack my account without even knowing how to spell my name correctly....

and if you are someone that i know... then i beg to differ.. i don't know any childish, idiotic person who would want to crack into my account just to invade my privacy. i have no such friends nor acquaintance like that. as far as this goes to me, you are a total stranger to me...

and even if you claim that i know you... i would in fact prefer to have no ties with such a person who has no respect for me. let alone a coward who will not even identify himself. even if you alter my account or anything it's fine.. even if you render me unable to enter my own account, it's fine... because this account that you just wasted your time to crack is just for junk mail/spam and unimportant stuff..

@@@

in about 10 minutes time? i wasn't checking the time.. as i was busy taking precautions in case this idiotic psychopath really decides to render me unable to enter my account any more.. i was taking down the sites of the places i registered for. it's no loss for me, if he does actually close down my account, i can just open a new one, but the hassle comes with re-registering for everything.

as i said, as i was busy taking my precautions against this idiot with no respect for me, i noticed that the draft was deleted... that left me wondering.. did i accidentally delete it.. upon checking... i don't think i did. if i pressed cancel, my message to the idiot, wouldn't be there, same goes to delete.. and i did recall clicking on save draft.

that means, that the idiot himself deleted it...

he didn't even have the decency to apologise. well, i was still pissed, i don't take it lightly when people are rude and have no respect for others. there is a limit to things. so i wrote another mail and saved it in the draft for him..

the chances of him seeing it could be quite low now, as he might have gotten scared after reading the first message from me. but just in case, i will just leave it there for the idiot to read, if he ever does want to come back into my account to see what emails i am receiving...

***
jokes have their limits, this is a serious breach of security and privacy. i bet you are the type of guy that takes everything in life as a joke.. ooh.. i can guess how many people i know who are like that....your identity may not be so safe after all...

why delete the draft? if you claim to be someone that knows me, [which sounds to me like you are saying you are a friend of mine... which i think not, seeing your earlier actions...] identify yourself.. if you are that cowardly then at least tell me what precautions can i take, so that i can prevent further idiots such as yourself from hacking into my email accounts in the future. thanks.

and it would be wise of you to leave me alone from now on. if you don't want to admit who you are.. just make sure that i never find out who you are. trust me it won't be pleasant. what you did has really irked me. i absolutely do not like my privacy to be invaded. telling me things like changing my password is useless?? then so be it.. i have nothing to hide anyway.. worse come to worse, i would actually just happily close down this account.. it might be a hassle for me since i have some things related to this account... and i would need to move some things... but so what, if it protects my privacy!!

some person you are, you really fail as a friend or even a family member.. nay most probably you fail in the human society, since you have no respect for privacy. if people want to share, they will do so willingly, doing idiotic things like this, just makes people despise you more!

deleting the draft without even an apology, and an admission saying you won't do such things again, places you as low as possible in the hierarchy of living beings. i for one, look down on such people, who even if afraid to admit their identity, but failed to sincerely apologise. if you know me in real life, please keep away from me.. i don't wish to have friends like you, no respect for others, and no manners at all.

@@@

well i've expressed all that i've wanted to say. and i'm still very displeased.. i can think of a certain person who would do this.. though i shall give him the benefit of the doubt. i don't think that he would stoop that low into doing things like this, as i believe. no matter what a joker he is, he still knows his limits, or at least i hope he does. [don't ask me, i won't name anyone.]

i know there were times that i have actually given certain friends my email account's ID and password, and well.. to which a friend, was so surprised that she stated that i was very trusting....

people who are close to me, know that i have a certain issue in trusting people. don't get me wrong.. if i don't trust you, i won't even consider you my friend. i have a certain friendship sort of trust with friends, and it varies among friends.

but basically i trust my friends. i know that to those, in whom i have confided personal information will not divulge it. besides they all know how to spell my name correctly. but that is besides the point. i believe my friends won't do such stupid things... and that's the bottom line... so the idiot who did this? must be an aqcuaintance/someone whom i'm not close to [if you are close to me, you will know that i don't really take jokes such as this lightly. yes, i'm a serious person, so sue me!].. and if i ever find out his identity... well as i said above.. it won't be pleasant...

anyway, in case he doesn't go back to my account, let's just hope that he does at least read my blog, so that he can receive the piece of my mind written above...

and oh, i will change the password tomorrow or the day after, and see what happens.. there's something about the password that i want to do. i will tell certain people who bother to ask me...

but i doubt anything more will happen, but if it does... you will hear of it here..

Inhuman!!

Translation for those who don't understand mandarin

"I turn on the TV and what do I see? Dead bodies, injured people, corpses, rotten bodies, all the crazy acts you guys are putting up. It's not that I want to watch these things. I have no choice. Look, now the entire internet is black-and-white and without colour. Do you think we're all colourblind like you? Have your eyes been hit by so much rubble you can't see any colour now?

"Sigh... all you guys... if you're hit by the rubble just go suffer by yourself quietly... What are you screaming for? What rescue are you asking for? Not that I'm blaming you... you guys in Sichuan are in a terrible position in China. They say the Indian plate is moving in crashing into you guys. Don't you think you guys deserve it?

"I think this earthquake was not strong enough. If only it had just been a bit stronger to flip you guys over. Today we're mourning for you. Tomorrow we're donating money to you, huh? May 21 is such a great day. Lots of people trying to get married this year. And now we have to mourn for you. Do you think those couples should get married or not? What a spoilsport. May 20, May 21, such auspicious days, now all spent mourning for you. Come on, how many of you guys are dead? Just a few, is it not? We've got so many people in China anyway.

"F*ck... You're annoying everyone to death... What tricks are you guys playing! Do you think you're all very goodlooking? Which part of your body is that precious? People are giving you cash and giving you food. And you guys are now doing nothing? Sigh... these few days, it's just impossible to go anywhere without getting reminded of you silly c*nts... Everywhere I go people are saying 'Argh, there are aftershocks in Sichuan again, this and that'...

"As for that old lady who's been lying over there for over 100 hours? Why haven't you died yet? You trying to play the mummy?

"F*ck... the earthquake might as well rock all you guys to death... All you have given us are catastrophes... all your children are jinxes... (more)"

Oh My God!! this girl is not human.. she has no human compassion.. i bet she is some rude girl who has no respect for her elders, and has absolutely no manners what so ever...

my Chinese may be limited.. but i understand somewhat perfectly clear what she is saying.. what is wrong with featuring the earthquake on television everyday??? i don't mind it... yes it's gruesome to sometimes see the bodies and distressed relatives.. but all this makes me thankful that i'm not going through that disaster... and it makes me want to help them.. what is wrong with this girl??? BITCH!!... how could she say such things like..

i tried translating, but she speaks so fast, and as i said, my Chinese is limited.. so here is a translation someone did. --> here on youtube on the side bar, but i've already posted it above.. it's somewhat different from what i tried.. but it gets the meaning across..

but oh my god just look at her face when she said all that.. the arrogance in her face.. as if the earth quake has done something to her.. as if the world owes her something.. the best part was.. the girl next to her was laughing.. and i mean the people around her, can hear her making this kind of comments and NO ONE STOPPED HER!! they all just watched and laugh...

what is wrong with those people.. yes, China has a lot of people, BUT NO ONE DESERVES THIS!! heartless, inhuman... the same level as the devil...

Oh My God.. no wonder we still have WAR on this planet.. IT'S DUE TO INSENSITIVE, HEARTLESS, INHUMAN PEOPLE LIKE THAT GIRL!!

i'm so disgusted.. even if you can't or aren't doing anything, condemning people is just wrong... totally and absurdly wrong!!

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

well that was the official website that i gave.. but i didn't really check the website out..

it's 0049, 28th May 2008.. i just got back from the said movie with Raymond. thanks Raymond for accompanying me, and for dinner.. we had Carl's burger!! not bad, really big portions that they serve, twice the size of the Big Mac, and quite tasty... Thanks Ray :)

we had a lovely chat as usual over dinner :) i always enjoy our dinners together.. we can talk about so many things :)

the movie this round was on me, since Ray always buys dinner, and drives me.. so the least i could do was pay for the movie and the parking.. i know i'm not earning yet.. but i do what i can :) and i think i was sort of lucky.. i think today is Lady's Night or something.. the tickets only cost me RM15.. a surprise to the both of us... RM8 & RM7 respectively... guess RM7 is for the lady, and RM8 for her companion? according to Ray it usually costs around RM11.. woah.. that expensive already?? i thought it was between RM9-10.... anyway i digress...

on to the movie.. i watched the first movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe with Ray when it first came out, and i borrowed the book from Eugene and read it...

the second movie... personally? is better than the first... i find.. the CGI (computer effects) and the storyline was better than the first... though. Peter is still arrogant.. Susan is still Susan... And why on earth is Lucy still thinking like a kid, when she should have matured, at least mentally and spiritually, when they ruled Narnia for a decade or so (can't remember how long they ruled Narnia, before returning to our world..).. well, the best is Edmund.. his change is notable, since the first movie, and he was the one character i liked the most... though the actor for Peter, wasn't bad.... (he has courage.. though he is stubborn and arrogant...)

there were some cliché parts.. usually at the fighting part, when they are at war... we all know that Aslan is going to pop out and save the day...

MAJOR SPOILER: highlight between the ** to read..

**and the fact that Prince Caspian would come out of no where to rescue Susan.. and well Lucy as well.. was cliché too.. **

but overall i liked it better.. i know that in the first movie a bunch of teenagers were going around slaying people like nobody business.. and that kind of irked me.. but it still didn't make it easier for me, to see young people, teenagers.. aka Edward, Peter and Susan, easily killing people.. it's a war i know.. but it's kind of hard for me to stomach... although it's the second movie, and as Ray said.. they were already doing that in the first movie.. besides their mentality is supposed to be older.. etc. etc.

it's a good watch really, i can't wait for the 3rd instalment, and am seriously considering getting the book set for all 3 books.... maybe after my exams.... ;p

the movie was full of perks and humour.. i spent a good half of it laughing.. the jokes were incredible.. the sarcasm, witty.. you just have to love it.. and the Narnians.. adorable.. well the little ones at least.. (well, i am an animal lover.. though my love for animals have a limit...)

thoroughly enjoyable, and the company added on more to it.. really loved it.. i would recommend it to anyone who asks :) you guys should go and catch the movie... totally superb.. the humour and the new storyline.. the beautiful scenery.. (the river water was so clear, it really reminded me of Switzerland.. could they have filmed there?) plus the cool CGI especially at the ending part.. makes up for the few clichés that are bound to appear in movies such as this :)

Through the Mail

my SAM classmate sent me these emails.. so i thought that i would just post them here rather than forward... by the way, there are two mails here... i've no idea how to readjust the font.. so i'm just leaving it as it is.. i'm too lazy and do not have the leisure to retype everything...

New kind of Breast Cancer - DO NOT DELETE
Please forward to all of the women in your
lives . Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, friends, etc.
In November, a rare kind of breast cancer was found. A lady developed a rash on her breast, similar to that of young mothers who are nursing.
Because her mammogram had been clear, the doctor treated her with antibiotics for infections. After 2 rounds, it continued to get worse, so her doctor sent her for another mammogram. This time it showed a mass.
A biopsy found a fast growing malignancy. Chemo was started in order to shrink the growth; then a mastectomy was performed; then a full round of Chemo; then radiation. After about 9 months of intense treatment, she was given a clean bill of health.
She had one year of living each day to its fullest.
Then the cancer returned to the liver area. She took 4 treatments and decided that she wanted quality of life, not the after effects of Chemo. She had 5 great months and she planned each detail of the final days. After a few days of needing morphine, she died. She left this message to be delivered to women everywhere:

Women, PLEASE be alert to anything that is not normal, and be persistent in getting help as so! on as possible.
Paget's Disease: This is a rare form of breast cancer, and is on the outside of the breast, on the nipple and aureole It appeared as a rash, which later became a lesion with a crusty outer edge. I would not have ever suspecte d it to be breast cancer but it was. My nipple never seemed any different to me, but the rash bothered me, so I went to the doctor for that. Sometimes, it itched and was sore, but other than that it didn't bother me. It was just ugly and a nuisance, and could not be cleared up with all the creams prescribed by my doctor and dermatologist for the dermatitis on my eyes just prior to this outbreak. They seemed a little concerned but did not warn me it could be cancerous.
Now, I suspect not many women out there know a lesion or rash on the nipple or aureole can be breastcancer. (Mine started out as a single red pimple on the aureole. One of the biggest problems with Paget's disease of the nipple is that the symptoms appear to be harmless. It is frequently thought to be a skin inflammation or infection, leading to unfortunate delays in detection and care.)

What are the symptoms?

1. A persistent redness, oozing, and crusting of your nipple causing it to itch and burn (As I stated, mine did not itch or burn much, and had no oozing I was aware of, but it did have a crust along the outer edge on one side.)

2. A sore on your nipple that will not heal. (Mine was on the aureole are a with a whitish thick looking area in center of nipple).

3. Usually only one nipple is effected. How is it diagnosed? Your doctor will do a physical exam and I should suggest having a mammogram of both breasts, done immediately. Even though the redness, oozing and crusting closely resemble dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), your doctor should suspect cancer if the sore is only on one breast. Your doctor should order a biopsy of your sore to confirm what is going on.

This message should be taken seriously and passed on to as many of your relatives and friends as possible; it could save someone's life.

My breast cancer has spread and metastasized to my bones after receiving mega doses of chemotherapy, 28 treatments of radiation and taking Tamaxofin. If this had been diagnosed as breast cancer in the beginning, perhaps it would not have spread...

TO ALL READERS:

This is sad as women are not aware of Paget's disease. If, by passing this around on the e-mail, we can make others aware of it and its potential danger, we are helping women everywhere.

Please, if you can, take a moment to forward this message to as many people as possible, especially to your family and friends. It only takes a moment, yet the results could save a life
.

A woman was working in a post office in California ..

One day she licked the envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge. That very day the lady found a cut on her tongue. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue. She went to the doctor, and they found nothing wrong. Her tongue was not sore or anything. A couple of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get really sore, so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done. The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared her for minor surgery. When the doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!!

There were cockroach eggs on the seal of the envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of her tongue, because of her saliva. It was warm and moist...

This is a true story reported on CNN

Andy Hume wrote:

Hey, I used to work in an envelope factory. You wouldn't believe the....things that float around in those gum applicator trays. I haven't licked an envelope for years!' I used to work for a print shop (32 years ago) and we were told NEVER to lick the envelopes. I never understood why until I had to go into storage and pull out 2500 envelopes that were already printed and saw several squads of cockroaches roaming around inside a couple of boxes with eggs everywhere. They eat the glue on the envelopes.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON, TO YOUR FRIENDS.. After reading this you will never lick another envelope or stamp again

Nationalism is good... but is it really?

Finally a long overdue post, well not that long, it's less than 3 weeks... since i'm sitting in my hometown with nothing to do (spurred also by a letter my friend wrote to Malaysia kini on a little bit of what i wanted to say..well it's related...--> here )... so i thought, now is the best time to write about this...

well, what do i wish to talk about.. nothing else but nationalism...

looking up nationalism in the dictionary, i got three meanings...
  1. patriotic feelings, principles, or efforts
  2. an extreme form of this, especially: marked by the feeling of superiority over other countries
  3. advocacy of political independence for a particular country e.g Palestinian Nationality
Malaysia's nationalism... should be interpreted as the first meaning. where our citizens possess patriotic feelings, principles and efforts...

The most nationalistic people, seem to be in BN, in a specific party which i shall not name.. since the government refuses to do away with the sedition act, nor the ISA.. my hands are tied...

in the name of nationalism, what has happened? roads were renamed from English names (the British communal rule times) to Malay names...

i wonder why... it wasn't necessary.. keeping the English names, is just a part of our history.. with the world going through globalisation, and with the internet rampant, trying to hide history is pointless. whether it was good or bad, it was the past, and it makes up the country.. so why change it? i find that there's nothing wrong with it.. but it's all in the name of nationalism...

imagine it would be nice to explain to some tourists, or foreign friends, why was this certain road called Jalan Raffles (something i made up over Stamford Raffles, who if i recall correctly was in the British India Trading Company and took over Penang in 1886..)

it was all in the name of nationalism.. that they changed the name to Malay.. this may not be significant, and it may be my own personal opinion, but it seems to be telling us, that English isn't important, our history isn't important... forget it all...

secondly, the education system... 20 years ago,(from our parents' time) from using English as a medium of teaching.. due to the word, nationalism all syllables were changed to Malay... one wonders what is the purpose of this... the English medium of teaching has worked so well for the country.. just look at it.. the people from our parent's time.. i really admire them, they are of a total different standard to us, who were forced to learn everything in Malay..

i'm not saying that it is a bad thing to study in Malay.. but subjects such as Science and Maths, should at least be learnt in English... something i realized when i entered College, and started my studies in English...

during your time in high school,we all feel that it's nothing wrong, because we are used to it, but once we enter private institutions we realize the benefits of studying in English... especially when we are "somewhat" fluent in the language..

not many of us are fluent when you think about it.. my English teacher's English, was way, way worse than i.. imagine that as i copied the exercises off the board, i was correcting the mistakes... what level of English do we expect our students to have when our own teachers standard of English is so horrid? but i digress for the time being..

now, the government has realized their mistake, after maybe 2 generations, and about 5 years ago, they started to teach science and maths in English in stages... the joke comes in now... where the government wants to change it all back to Malay.... because some students are having a hard time coping...

it will need at least another generation or 2 to see results rather than 5 years.... it really makes you think what on earth is the government thinking.. no wonder the 6 states (it's 5... but by default, it should be 6!) voted them out...

the government doesn't know what to do that is right, they only think bout garnering the votes to stay in power.. to do things, which they do best.. which again i shall not say.... due to some certain acts....

the fickle-mindedness of the government... all due to the word nationalism... they can't decide what is best.. they are short sighted, as has been evident with all the reports i read in the newspaper...

because of nationalism.. they take out certain subjects which they think aren't important to us to study... leaving us a situation where we are neither here nor there... their nationalism is fallacious... it is mistaken.. they think that they are doing good, by being nationalistic, when in actual fact they are paving the way for our doom..

just look at it.. due to the medium of teaching being in Malay... and even to enter into the local public universities, a credit in Malay is needed... where has the standard got us to?

our education system mind you isn't the best.. studies have shown that you can tell whether a child is smart or other wise at the age of about 5.. but all this brightness goes down the drain.. due to non other than the education system.. where we are forced to merely memorize things in the books, and regurgitate... there is no space for independent thinking nor creativity..

this results in mere zombies, who enter universities to continue the process of being spoon fed... an acquaintance of my parents, a lecturer for the engineering facility in a public university once said.. if you teach the class how to built a 3 storey building, and later ask them to built a 6 storey building... they haven't a clue how.. this is the standard of our public universities..

a friend of mine, in a public university, once told me.. the number of people that drop out... because they couldn't keep up, was huge.. what with the quota system.. people that don't deserve to be in the universities, are there, and those who deserve it, can't get in... just read the papers... a straight 11A student couldn't get a scholarship whereas her/his friend who is a Malay with only 7As could get one.. it's discrimination.. after at least 3 generations, non-Malays are still being treated like we aren't Malaysians...

some even entered the public universities with only 3As.. and we wonder why are the standards of our universities dropping so badly....

it's no mystery... where we can afford it, we would rather go to private universities, and ultimately overseas... and not bother to return.. causing a brain drain to the country... who would like to return to a country that treats you as a second class citizen? where ever we non Malays go in this world, we are still second class citizens. if that is so, who wouldn't want to go to a country that gives its second class citizens equal opportunity? (some of us are still here, because we don't have a choice.. others have their own various reasons...)

the government was yet again short-sighted. even their own MPs are graduates from overseas.. long gone were the days when you could proudly shout out.. "I GRADUATED FROM UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA" nope, those days are long gone..

heck, with the government giving scholarships to send students overseas, don't you think they are admitting it themselves that our universities quality is low? in other countries, only those who couldn't make it to the public universities are forced to spend more money and study overseas, what BN is doing is the total opposite!! no wonder the country is suffering...

with the quotas.. aren't they saying that their own people the Malays are useless? and need to be protected? how long can you keep protecting them? if you keep protecting them, then they will remain forever useless... i personally don't think they are useless... they can do what everyone can, they just need to be more hard working, and stop waiting for BN to spoon feed them...

BN, by protecting the Malays like this.. they will never be independent.. it breeds racism and discontent.. it stalls progress.. and loads of other things... but i guess that is BN's main goal, so that they can keep on garnering votes from the Malay community to stay in power, as they made the Malays believe that without UMNO, they are defenceless little babies.. (which they aren't by the way, you just need to wean them off the baby bottle, and let them stand on their two feet... heck, some have already taken the initiative to wean their selves...)

The government didn't think.. that with their nationalism, with their stupid quotas.. that they were practically bringing the country in to a slow kill... or maybe they did realise... but were too selfish... either way it was a short sighted move... sadly now we are reaping what was sowed of these bad seeds..

these bad seeds has caused our education system, to be of low quality, the Ringgit to depreciate, as a lot of our Ringgit flows out of the country to pay for quality education unavailable in our own country...

we are suffering from a brain drain....as more youths refuse to return to the country.... it promotes racism, resulting in the country being unable to move forward.. our economy is suffering a backlash (NEP)... it opens up the path for cronyism, nepotism and corruption... etc. etc. the list is endless...

it's hopeless.... nationalism is good... but the way it was used was totally wrong.... it's bringing the country down, with short sighted Member of Parliaments(MP), who selfishly think only of their own well being..

nationalism shouldn't be instilled only in the Malays, but in all Malaysians, regardless of race... that's the biggest mistake that BN made this past 50 years, and have no idea to remedy,(what with their race based politics) as they run around like headless chickens, still trying to figure out what happened in the March 8 elections...

***

on another note.. as i read the newspapers everyday.. i can't stop myself from thinking.. no wonder this country is going to the dogs...

why do i say that? read the papers yourself..

They are blaming PKR for the pig farming in Selangor.. Who approved the project? BN did...
Giving PKR a rude acronym in parliament.. you are left wondering.. did the Rembau MP really graduate from Oxford..
the ex Chief Minister (CM) for Selangor.. Khir Toyo (was his name?) is another brainless git... the new CM of Selangor, announced that the majority of the projects approved by the previous government is to the detriment to the state... guess what the ex CM said?
if you don't like it cancel them all...

in case some of you don't find anything wrong with that let me explain a little.
All those projects are acquired by way of contracts, you can't just cancel a contract when and as you please, you face a threat of law suit to do that.. your will have to around a long way, to remedy all this nonsense that BN caused...

there were plenty of other instances.. but the ones mentioned above are the most recent ones..

i'm really left wondering... do the BN MPs have any brains?? even if you want to boycott PKR.. do it properly.. it's a game of stealth you now... i played the Singapore version of Bridge, a card game... in this game, unlike the usual game of bridge, partners are not predetermined, but are randomly partnered, by a sign, usually a certain card. you may play the whole game without knowing who your partner is... it's a game of stealth and strategy...

some people don't get the game, the moment they realise that this certain person is their partner, they immediately go all out to aid that person, making it obvious that he/she is the other person's partner... that's the wrong way to go around... you should keep your identity to yourself while secretly helping your partner.. that is the gist of the game.. and well.. i think BN is just digging their own graves, with their brainless tactics of boycott..

among the few things that i will mention.. i will try to mention the most prominent ones..

1. their usual tactics is to withdraw federal funds...
--> stupid move.. why? everyone pays taxes.. this makes the people more angry.. the money is ours, what right do they have to withhold the people's money? also, the states which they are not providing funds, are the jewels of Malaysia, states which can survive, with prudent administration without federal aid...

2. saying that the new government hasn't done a thing..
--> hello? they have to pick up BN's shit.. with all the missing documents as well, of course it's harder to administrate... they need time to collect information, because BN stole them all when they lost the election (sue me for saying that..but i'm right! it is theft! the offices were left empty, and the documents presumably destroyed).. besides Parliament only commenced not long ago.. and you know.. within weeks of being in power, they have done a few things...

3. blaming PKR for meaningless projects i.e the Pig Farming project being the most prominent one in the news now..
--> PKR just came into power after March 8.. it's only 2 months since then.. do you think they had the time to go around making contracts, when they have to scavenge for shredded documents? those contracts were made by BN for their own cronies.. imagine, in the recent case of the developers getting 70% profits.. most of them have no experience at all.. and there was no open tender.. it's obviously the case of cronysim, nepotism, and corruption...

4. blaming online media, especially bloggers, for the turn of events
--> it's their fault they lost the elections, yet they are still in denial. they still remain arrogant and egoistical, that it isn't their fault they lost, and they keep pushing the blame here and there, much to the chagrin of the people. most ironic? blame the bloggers, and they started blogging themselves...

5. trying to invoke scare tactics, that another May 13 will occur.. arresting people for publishing "seditious" articles and comments..
--> May 13 doesn't work on the younger generation.. putting 1+1 we know it equals 2.. there's been a lot of speculation and analysis that it was done by They-who-must-not-be-named for their own benefits... arresting Raja Petra?? no matter how i look at the article.. if Raja Petra really was in the wrong... shouldn't he be sued for defamation? an abuse of government power, to arrest him.. again.. the people get angrier at BN

there's plenty more, but i think these are the most prominent ones for the time being...

even with this few, "attempts" at boycotting PKR.... BN is digging their own grave... as the days go by.. the people's patience, especially urban folks, educated people, with the means to enter the gateway of the world... we grow impatient, frustrated and angrier at BN... come next election.. i wonder if they will retain their majority in Parliament?

i for one, remain sceptical...

"Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. sometimes we get so busy with our lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's eight and wrong. sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. i don't want to let that happen so i'm gonna tie you to my heart, so i never lose you."
*The quote above is dedicated to the Birthday boy, Friends forever
070 (just like on the key chain i got you eons ago053 )
and well the part below.. isn't meant nor dedicated to him.. except the last line? haha

~~

I got that quote from the mail from my SAM classmate Linda... thought it was nice so am sharing... but it's true... a lot of people.. and i mean a lot of people.. i'm no exception.. don't realise that we've lost a meaningful friendship till we've lost them... though i try my best to keep the meaningful ones.. but it takes two hands to clap....

all relationships whether it's with family, friends or lovers, is a two way street.. it's all give and take... though with family and lovers.. maybe...... the giving may be more unconditional.. but i don't know...

i do know, that relationships can't last if it's only a one way street.. people get tired when they have to keep giving.. i know this the best.. sometimes you just want to take some things back.. it's not like you expect anything in return, but...

Heck even civil servants get a day off too, you know... there are times when you just want to take, we are just human, we aren't God, we can't just keep giving and giving.. there is no endless flow of giving, the giving has to come from somewhere.. and like everything in this world, it is not a continuous, it needs to rest and replenish...

But the people around you, are so used to taking, that they don't know how to give anything back... so who wants to stay in a relationship where they are being taken for granted? obviously that's why a lot of couples/friendships break up...

sometimes... the other party may realise too late, that the person is tired.. but some people don't do a thing, and some try to give back.. but sometimes.. you know.. when it's too late, it's just too late... if you really want to win that person back, doing a half-assed job will make that person drift even further away from you...

as they say, once bitten twice shy... when people have to tell you what to do.. it loses all meaning.. it feels like you are doing it, because we told you to, like it's an obligation on your part... it's no longer your own personal motivation..

saying that you don't know what do to, is merely an excuse.. is it that hard to think, how you would like others to treat you? and do the same? example, if you are sick. wouldn't you like it, if someone cooked, let's say porridge or chicken soup for you? accompany you to the doctor? it's the same thing... doing small little things, are sufficient... every action of ours, no matter how big or small, causes a ripple.. and this is true for both negative and positive actions.. (it's true it's hard to control our actions, especially the negative actions, but just try your best..)

we are all humans.. yet we don't understand other humans.. it's not really a mystery, the answer is just right in front of us.. still don't know the answer? it's simple.. because humans are all selfish creatures, with the only thing going through our minds is "me, myself and I". oh how tired i am of people like that..

i don't mind the fact that the human mind is all "me, myself and I" but it would be nice, if they could squeeze a little "& you" into that equation.. the "you" which isn't the "i love you, because i need you..." not that "you "....

But the "i need you, because i love you" that type of "you"... (for all relationships, family, friends, lovers.. why do people think that, that only applies to lovers??? don't you love your family and friends???) guess that's just too much to ask.. especially of certain people..

though I'm tired of being in this world with such people.. I'm glad that there are still some people, the minority that they are, who take the time to squeeze that little special "you" in their lives..

Again, Happy Birthday Satoshi kun :)

Articles on relationships..

Today's Yahoo homepage were featuring links to articles which i usually ignore.. because... ermm... well.. not much of an interest? and well, i already know those facts... i don't have the statistics.. but i know.. but when i saw those links.. i thought of a friend...

and well.. you never know... they might prove useful to me in the future... que sara sara

8 ways to Affair-proof your marriage
this marriage thing, may not apply to most of us yet.. but it will in the future.. heck.. even if you are still dating... some of them would be interesting... i guess??

Does a wandering eye mean a wandering heart
we all look? i think all is really strong.. there are a very rare few who don't... even if they do, they compare it to the other person to their loved one... but yeah.. this one is a good article for a certain friend... ;p

Do you expect too much from your relationship

i only scanned through.. doesn't seem to say much.. but you judge for yourself. my speed reading isn't as good as ccy, and i might have missed out on the important stuff...

5 secrets you should keep from your partner

again scanned through.... it's kind of true.... what not to tell... but i don't know.. if we really need to tell, then we need a level of 'nice/civil' honesty.. could be just me...

*****

on another note.. i'm plainly annoyed with some people on youtube, acting like they are the gods of the world... people online are plainly as rude as in the flesh...

i have a video of me drinking absinthe while i was in Prague last 2 Decembers (2006).. and i posted the video on youtube, because blogger is retarded, and i couldn't load the video here... so bla bla.. if you're an avid follower of my blog, i doubt that you would have missed the video...

the annoying thing.....

is the comments i keep getting from people, saying what i was doing was wrong bla bla.. the wrong way to drink absinthe.. you know.. i don't mind if you tell me, i'm wrong.. (which i wasn't by the way, there are two ways to drink absinthe, and i was introduced to the less popular way...)...

but they commented about it in a way, as if they are a smart ass know it all.. that's what's irritating.. well read the comments for yourself --> Let's Drink Absinthe

and yes, i think it's obvious from my latest comment that i don't care anymore.. they can talk all they want..i was trying to be polite/courteous/civil the whole time in trying to explain and promote Prague (though maybe some might take it the wrong way)... but those arrogant idiots are just what they are, arrogant idiots...

Phone Scam

*Edited*

Question: How the hell, did they get my number??

I've been receiving spam messages from Maison (a club i went too once, after coming back from the UK..) and the Ice bar (i went there to have a drink with my cousins once, i didn't exactly enter the ice bar.. just the one next to it... which i guess is part of it...==)..

so i guess maybe that's how they got my number.. Though i don't recall giving my number to the ICE BAR in the Curve... Damn.. so irritating.. How I wish Digi has the service to block Spam SMS..

Anyway back to the topic at hand...

Phone scam... believe it or not... i got one today.. when i was in class...

There I was, wishing that Raja Singham (my lecturer, and well, i was known as a kaki ponteng for classes back in high school, i changed in University.. but, asking me to sit still for 5 hours.... is like asking me to sit on a bed of nails.. my max is 3 hours.... or well, maybe 4, depending on the subject...) would just STOP already...

When my phone vibrated.. taking it out.. it was an unknown caller... now, people rarely call me, most of the time they text/SMS me....

if the number doesn't show up on the screen, it's usually a call from overseas.. most probably my siblings.... and since i was sitting.. way, way behind in class, i just answered the phone softly.. the moment i heard the person speak on the other side.. i knew what i was in for...

So here was what transpired, as i answered my phone as softly and as quietly as possible...

To be greeted by some China national, trying to speak horrendous English..

"Do you speak Mandarin?" with a Female version of a really 'Ah Pek' sounding voice..

I answered in Mandarin.. "A little" in which she repeated after me in Mandarin... "oh ok, a little"

She continues in mandarin.. "we are a company based in Hong Kong and would like to conduct a survey, is it okay if we question you, it's only 2 questions..."

Me? internally, i was going.. damn, it's the phone scam, and i don't know how to record it using my phone... i told the girls sitting next to me.. "damn... i kena the phone scam..."

and i was also wondering... if they are a Hong Kong company, why don't they speak Cantonese? i should have asked her to speak Cantonese.. but i know she can't...

so maybe that's why i didn't.. i wasn't concentrating much on the phone conversation anyway.. i was just thinking.. how did they get my number??... and well.. how to keep myself unnoticed by the lecturer, since I was on the phone.. (since i was sitting behind, it's kind of difficult to leave.. to go out to talk on the phone.. i would be disturbing a number of people..)

i answered in mandarin.. "Ok [好- hao]"

She continues.. and sometimes, i wonder... is it good that i'm a half banana?... she asked me something relating to electronics.. i think.. something about when i buy... electronics? where do i go/what do I buy (i'm not sure, as i said my mandarin is limited. if only she spoke Cantonese..)... and she named a few things/places/brand which i haven't a clue..

so i said, "sorry, but i don't understand... you're speaking too fast"

so she tried to repeat.. and i was still clueless...

as i was in class, i was trying hard to be quiet and not laugh.. or whatever, and was afraid that the lecturer might spot me, even though i'm almost a 100 metres away... (okay, sue me, i exaggerated... it wasn't that far, maybe 50 metres....)

Then she gives up trying to explain to me in her crappy, atrocious English what i don't understand and started to ask for my name... (See? that's why i didn't bother asking if she could speak Cantonese...)

no wonder she is participating in this fraud.. i bet she couldn't find a job elsewhere.. it's mean of me to say so.. but i don't pity someone who cheats her own people.. we are all Chinese.. even if we aren't.. she's aiding some syndicate in cheating people out of their hard earned money.. she doesn't get my pity.. i would even ask her to go to hell if i could.. 去見鬼 [chi jian gui... go & see ghost.. could also mean, go to hell... i guess..]

i replied, "you can just call me Cindy.."

And she insisted that she wanted my name in Chinese, and was asking if i had a Chinese name....

internally, i was like.. you want my Chinese name?....

What for? to cast a spell on me?? so i thought of giving her the name Zhang Hui Mei [張惠妹], the Taiwanese singer.... it is kind of close to my name....

but thought that was too obvious. so i opted to give the surname as Chan. to make it Chan Hui Mei.. (ironically although it was xian ai sitting next to me, i thought of chan because of ccy.. weird.. )

but she didn't get what i was saying, and i tried to repeat the word Chan to her a lot of times.. (i don't blame her.. i was soft.. but, then again I was in class... also maybe i should have said Chan in mandarin.. but i couldn't think then...5 hours of classes just fries your brain dry....) till i got fed up..

by that time, i was on the phone for approximately 3 & a half minutes already.. with her doing most of the talking... as i was trying to be quiet.. i repeat... I was in class after all...

Irritated that i had to repeat my "Name" like 3 times, i just hung up.. i know she won't call again.. And well, if she does.. and if I'm not in class, I'll most probably play around with her more..

How? Hmm~ I don't know, like maybe give her a name that sounds like this.. 不能騙 which means, "cannot bluff/ can't be lied to" [bu neng pian] or 沒有钱 which means "no money", [mei you qian]

And tell her.. if, i used the first name that is, i.e. 不能騙 [bu neng pian, cannot be lied too] and if they realise my little trick (you never know, they could be dense.. since Kenny Sia gave them a number like this --> 748 in mandarin.. it means.. go and die haha [去死把 - chi se ba] ... i would just say.. i can't be lied too, because i know about your scam.. stop trying to cheat people of their money..

if i used the latter name, i would just go.. it's pointless to try and cheat my money, because as my name suggests 沒有钱, [mei you qian, no money] i have none haha

so yeah, that would have been interesting.. (my little 3 minute in-class entertainment... ) apparently they start off by going with this survey thing, then they'll ask for your details for some lucky draw thing, and call you back a few days later saying that you won in the lucky draw and you need to deposit this certain amount of money to claim your prize money.. bla bla..

for the full details... look below.. taken from kenny sia's blog.. (the company's name may differ though.. i think kenny sia's was to do with jewellery.. mine is electronics... which come to think of it, is stupid.. because China has all the cheap stuff.. i don't need Samsung or Hitachi.. well unless i want something long lasting haha...)

I have to thank Kenny Sia for this.. or i wouldn't be aware of it.. then again.. since i'm half banana.. i think it would be a tad harder to cheat me... they would most probably give up due to frustration, before completing their scam.. besides.. i don't have any money to to put as a "insurance deposit" for them.. and i would get suspicious if they are so eager to give me something free.. as there is a Chinese saying... forget it.. i will use the English equivalent..

'There's no such thing as a free lunch...'

Here is the video from kenny sia's blog.. for the full story go -->here

-Oracl3-

P/S: thanks to Seck Wei for helping me with the Chinese words.. i wasn't sure which words where which... my Chinese is like a primary 2 student's, maybe worse..... and since ccy, my usual translator isn't around..

but i guess.. my Chinese isn't that bad after all.. seeing that.. i'm part banana haha.. :p

also, i just came back from a dinner celebrating a friend's birthday i.e. Wendy.. i'll blog about that later... as i'm tired, i have class tomorrow... and well. that one involves pictures.. and we all know what a pain my connection is...

and for my sister.. i have an interesting picture of the dog.. which i'll post later.. when i'm free... and if connection permits...

CLP to be abolished??!!

MalaysiaKini reported yesterday at 8pm (and it's in today's mainstream media i.e. the Star and The Sun newspaper) that the CLP is to be abolished and law graduates will now have to sit for something called the Common Bar Course and the Common Bar Exam.

(Unfortunately I still have to take the CLP, because it will take them a year or two to implement it, furthermore, as the CLP exams are in July, they can't do anything for/to us... meaning my juniors graduating this year or next will benefit from this... woe is me... unless i fail this year.. which.. i hope, i won't.. but with the quota, & at the rate i'm going.... it's hard to say...)

Apparently it is in the works now, and full details in the form of a report will be given 2 months later....

but oh well.. the call for the abolishment of the CLP and for it to be replaced by a more transparent exam have been going on for years, but steps have only been taken after the 12th General Elections... (Get this! they admitted to the damned quota in the Star!! -- at least it felt like they did to me...)

It's a real huge change to everything, it's good that there are two political parties. As i've studied in economics before.. Monopoly isn't always a good thing, and it's always better to have competition.. or there would be no improvement..

i'm sure we are all sick with BN's/UMNO's calls for step down and their soul searching, when everything is as obvious as day... so i'm not going to touch on that....

on another note the live telecasts from parliament.. never have i seen parliament so full.. haha.. and now all of the parliament members have to be alert, instead of just sitting there and sleeping.. it gets more exciting.. although i personally feel that the name calling is undignified..

there was quite a lot of discontent going on during the first parliament sitting... what with Karpal Singh bringing up, what was called technical and minor issues..

I don't blame Karpal Singh... as a lawyer, every small little details count. if parliament can't follow these little procedures to the book, what is the point of having those procedures? some may see it as a small issue, but a small thing can be enlarged into something big..

For us in law.. if we make a minor mistake, the other party can enlarge our small mistake and get our case struck out from the court, and we will have to spend time and money to apply to court and do all other applications again..

it doesn't matter that it is a small issue, the rules where put there to be followed.. if you don't want to follow it, then look for a loophole.. that's your best bet.. so picking on the nitty bitty issues isn't a bad thing, yes it wastes time... but it's not bad... besides you only need to pick on them once or twice, and once everyone follows the rules, then it's fine.. it also gives the MPs the sense of responsibility... that they have to set an example and follow the rules.

if you don't fix the problems from the small things, how on earth do you expect to fix the big things?

i've already foreseen that PKR will start slow, and pick up speed, they are new.. i've already anticipated that parliament proceedings will start out slow... and that it would be more of a circus than it was in the past...

And i'm right, what with the big foot and big monkey (the amusing version of it all, with links provided to the serious versions..), and now Khairy calling PKR a very rude name, when it was actually BN that approved the pig farming, yet they keep blaming PKR..

UMNO really needs to know how to play a game of Bridge, an English card game (it's a game of cunning and wit) but i'm not going to teach them, because i don't want them to be in power any more... we need a change... and PKR is our answer... for now....

yet, how many people share my views? just because PKR is the new government for the 5 states (it's actually 6 by the way!!) now, everybody expects them to PERFORM NOW!

That is very unfair, (though others will disagree, and say that there is no such thing as fairness in love and war..) they have never taken office before, they need time to familiarise themselves with the accounts and businesses left behind by BN.... they need some time to adjust. they need to go through all the documents (which are, by the way mostly missing, thanks to BN. Giving them more work) you can't expect them to read, repair, find etc all these documents in a night?

It's a mountain load of them, they need time to read it.. and it's not that they haven't done anything.. they are doing things.. the pace is slow now, but they will pick it up, if we stop pressuring them, and give them time.. They know what is important, and what we want...

Pressuring them to perform in such a short time, will get us no where, they need time to adjust and find their footing.. give them a reasonable amount of time.. it doesn't help with BN's so called sabotaging strategy saying that PKR hasn't done anything to date...

Well it's true, that tactic may help them, but i trust that Malaysians are a rational bunch who can think for themselves and do realise that PKR is new, and they need some time....

They can't do very well, if we keep pressuring them.. think about it... they are in a tough state... they have to fight against the sabotaging, and due to BN the people are giving PKR pressure... who would like to be stuck in that situation? so to deliver they will do rushed jobs, as they fear losing our votes in the next election.. what comes out from a rushed job? we all know..

though so far PKR has been setting a good example in trying to help save costs and not spend unnecessarily, i commend them on that act. like for example taking a bus to the parliament.. not only does it save money, and petrol it is also environmental friendly & it reduces traffic...

even if they want to help us the Malaysians to fight corruption.. it won't be an easy job, furthermore, i believe that BN will think of other ways to sabotage. besides on the night where the votes were being tallied, when it was obvious they were losing... a lot of documents were removed, and presumably destroyed...

where our judicial system goes by the theory of "innocent till proven guilty" it's going to be real hard to convict anyone of anything without any evidence or witnesses...

I see where PKR is coming from, when they don't mind working with any BN officials, but BN making it a huge fuss, and calling its members traitors.. it's an old and crude thinking, that doesn't go along with modern times... no wonder they lost the elections, and at the rate they are going.. they are spiralling even more downhill...

Sedition Act

EDITED -- part 2 has been posted...

I know that I've posted on the Sedition Act before, but what i did is considered very brief, as i don't have the time, i only looked up the act for my general knowledge.. Raja Petra on the other hand, well sorts of blog for a living, and has more time to do some research, and he has wrote up something a little more proper in explaining the meaning of Sedition..

So click here -->What is Sedition Part 1
--> What is Sedition Part 2

It is quite well written, and he has copied many sources for this.. it's like he did a paper just on sedition. Sedition in general... not our draconian act which is so vague.. What he researched would explain the vague parts, and well...read the comments by his readers to get a wider view :)

i will edit this and post the 2nd part when he has posted it on his blog :)

Mother's Day gifts..

Well, it's that time of the year again.. Mother's Day... so me being a penniless student... who couldn't be bothered.. and i quote from my dad "to use the money we give you to buy something useless.." besides, i have no transport to go out... no money, and i haven't a clue what to buy.. what my mom needs she has... what she doesn't have, i can't afford....

Anyway.. i always believed that making something is more worth it than buying something... especially when you put your heart into it... what else can i make that my mom would like, but apple pie... so on a Friday as mentioned before, after class, i taught Xian Ai how to make one, and i made one myself for my mom....

so here it is....

Apple Pie for Mom, With Love... and she loved it so much.. That she ate it like....

This...Eating everything around the heart, but the Heart itself haha...

Well, Besides mom's favourite dessert of an apple pie with love from me, she was not forgotten by her daughter residing overseas, who decided to send a bouquet of roses back home, without consulting me!! causing me a few problems, but all was well... after multiple phone calls, which proves that Malaysian companies, are a real pain in the ass yet again... (Blooming Sdn Bhd, is like Shipping to Malaysia... Well, blooming is much better than shipping... but still.. Malaysian Companies)

The roses were due to arrive on the 10th of May in the morning, but unfortunately, as they had a bunch of roses to deliver on that day, being mother's day, they said they will try their best, but it is unlikely.

Seeing that we will be going back to bentong to celebrate mother's day, no one would be home, so i arranged for the company to send the flowers to my cousin who lives down the road... and guess, what, the message was never passed to the driver... see the efficiency.

Later in the evening i called the company again, and was told that my next door neighbour has it for safe keeping.. so, oh well, all is fine.. when we came back on Sunday night, i collected it for my mom... and cam whored for a bit.. haha

*****
The roses came with a box of bird nest, which will most probably end up in my stomach, as my mom doesn't drink such things... but i didn't take any pictures of the bird nest.... it's just a normal one anyway....

Here we have the Roses, I tried to make the "glitter effect" with the water again...

I tried at least 7 bloody times to load the picture that has the "water glitter" effect, but because Blogspot/Maxis is retarded & idiotic!

I couldn't, so i randomly selected another picture of the bouquet...
it's a pretty bouquet anyway...

And well, what is a bouquet without it's recipient..?

Here we have the receiver of the bouquet smiling happily away.. admist a pretty backdrop? I chose the best place we had to take a picture....

Mom and dad :)

Well the effect of the back ground i chose was supposed to be like this.. though fitting in the pictures of all 4 seasons would be better, but part of the stairway would be in the picture, and mom and dad would look small, so i settled for 3...

Then there's mom, me and the dog....

And i will try to load the picture that has the "water" effect again.. if i can't.. then i'm sorry.. i have tried!!

Well, well, Whaddaya know... it finally came through.. so here is the flowers again :)

See some of them have the desired effect ;p
Especially the dark coloured ones, make the water look like diamonds when it reflects the light of the camera flash...

Well that's all for now...

The weather is so damned freaking hot, that i have a headache again!!

Happy Mother's Day

To all the mothers out there, and especially to mine, Happy Mother's Day...

Actually this day is too commercialised, why do we need only one day out of the 365 days a year to show our appreciation for our mothers? (and the same applies to father's day)

My reasoning is that, this day was made for those who have migrated from their hometowns to the cities; an excuse for them to go back home to see their mom, once year...

as my parents said, as long as you treat them nice, love them, take care of them..etc.. everday is mother's day (or father's day)

so it's May 10th... but on May 9th after my class, xian ai came over to relearn how to make an apple pie, so i made one for my mom too as a mother's day gift... and i'm glad she likes it :p pictures will be posted later, as i'm waiting to get an "after" picture of the pie, to present a "before" and "after" picture...

On another note, Kenny Sia's letter to his father has touched me, and i thought that i would attempt one too, i don't want to wait till too late before i say what i want to say.... i've always believed that life is short, and we should try to live it out as much as possible. say the things you want to say, do the things you need to do..

so i shall attempt a letter to express myself.... (things which i can't really say face to face, or well, cause it takes time to think, it's easier to just think, write & post it here haha) my dad will get one too,(sorry but it will have similar points....) come father's day.. haha.. or maybe at this rate i should just write one for both? hmmm

i will consider the letter later as it is now 247am and I'm really tired... :p

Again,

Happy Mother's Day

Love

Witch hunt...

Looks like there is a witch hunt going on....

Oh, we all know what i mean, it's splashed in all the papers.. RPK being held in prison under the Sedition Act, which as i have posted before.... and to be more exact, the section shall be provided here as well... (For the full act --> Sedition Act 1948)

S. 3(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 defines
A “seditious tendency” as a tendency to:

(a) bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against any Ruler or against any Government;

(b) excite the subjects of the Ruler or the inhabitants of any territory governed by any government to attempt to procure in the territory of the Ruler or governed by the Government, the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of any matter as by law established;

(c) bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the administration of justice in Malaysia or in any State;

(d) raise discontent or disaffection amongst the subjects of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or of the Ruler of any State or amongst the inhabitants of Malaysia or of any State;

(e) promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Malaysia; or

(f) question any matter, right, status, position, privilege, sovereignty or prerogative
established or protected by the provisions of part III of the Federal constitution or Article 152, 153 or 181 of the Federal Constitution.

***

And here is the section which RPK is being held under: He is being held under Section 4(1) (c) for publishing seditious material...

S4(1) Offences: Any person who-

(a) Does or attempts to do, or makes any preparation to do, or conspires with any person to do, any act which has or which would, if done, have a seditious tendency;

(b) Utters any seditious words

(c) Prints, publishes, sells offers for sale, distributes or reproduces and seditious publication, or;

(d) Imports and seditious publication,

shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable, for a first offence to a fine not exceeding five thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both, and, for a subsequent offence, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; and any seditious publication found in the possession of the person or used as evidence at his trial, shall be forfeited, and may be destroyed or otherwise disposed off as the court directs.
**

I've read the article in which they are claiming to be seditious... and honestly I personally don't find it seditious, if i recall correctly, that certain person's name wasn't even mentioned..

To be honest, I feel that the Sedition Act is like a Dinosaur and ought to be repealed... but will they do it? It totally curbs our freedom of speech.. We need to incorporate the Humans Rights Act 1996!!

Anyway, I shouldn't speak so much about repealing it, less I be dragged to court as well one fine day....

where was I?... oh yes, RPK being summoned to court, it was interesting to note that RPK even started a fund for his law fees, and well he only needed RM5, 000 to post bail (which he denied, and preferred to languish in prison till October..) and he got at least 5 times that amount, see where this is leading to? He has the people's support, BN is digging its hole even deeper...

It's no secret, the government blames bloggers for the March 8 elections, and one of the contributors to this, they say is Malaysia Today.

Now i won't deny that Malaysia Today did not play a part, but heck, even without Malaysia Today, I was pretty certain who i was going to vote for, i don't need blogs to tell me that I'm living like a second class citizen in my own country, i don't need a blog to tell me that our university educations aren't very good.... and where we can afford it, we are off to private institutions... Heck i don't even need the blogs to tell me about the quota systems which are so being so vigorously denied...

I'm neither blind nor deaf, i can see and hear all these for myself.. I don't need the internet to tell me that.... if they want to charge RPK or at the very least get rid to him, because they blame him for the March 8 elections then, what about Malaysia Kini?

As a blogger, I'm abhorred that we are not given an outlet to express ourselves, whatever i just said above can be charged as seditious as well I guess, going by the looks of things... but guess what? those are my experiences from living in this country.. can they deny that? ask any Non-Bumi Malaysian in KL....

paragraph (a) of the act

(a) bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against any Ruler or against any Government;
Is too vague, with this, anything you say, can be held as seditious, explains why so many leaders from PKR were put under the ISA...

It's such an archaic act, it really ought to be repealed..

Besides on another note, don't you think that it is illogical that he is being held under the Sedition Act? Read the article for yourself, in no where did he explicitly write anything in hatred or contempt of the Monarchy or the Government...

At most, it was merely referring to a certain person, which mind you, the main stream media themselves have reported to be supposedly involved in the case.. Why don't you arrest them then under the same act?

Isn't it weird? Why don't they charge him for slander? or libel instead? it should be a case of defamation don't you think? --> is it really an abuse of Government power?

It really looks like a witch hunt to me, no matter how i look at it..... something which they started in August 2007, ceased, and have brought up again in the light of the election results two months ago...

I personally don't think that it is a smart move.. if their motive is to scare others or what so ever.. At the rate they are going, instead of admitting their arrogance, and corruption, but still searching for a scape goat to blame... come next election.. I don't think we will be seeing BN sitting at the top anymore...

They know what the problem is, yet they are still in denial after two months, with the blame shifting... and calls to step down... I don't think they will survive long unless they get their act together... even then there is no guarantee, the people have spoken, on this one....

**

On another note, i am disgusted with the turns of Balkis...

As a society that claims to be a charitable... i really don't understand the need to dissolve the society and transfer the funds.. it only causes speculations to arise.. and to add to that shouldn't all charitable organisations be apolitical????

it is the same as with the NGOs that came out to protest.. i was left wondering, what the heck were they playing at...

NGOs, non governmental organisations.. doesn't that mean that they are apolitical as well...

Damn they are politicising every damn thing for their benefit...

Well there's plenty i would love to say, but with the sedition act in place, unfortunately i will have to hold my tongue..

All i can say is that, BN is naive to think that blogs such as RPK's was the cause of this elections turn out...

They didn't take into account that at least 2 million of the voters are young voters, who don't fear May 13, because for one, we don't know what it was like, only what we can read from the archives, and we believe that we are more mature and educated than 39 years ago....

Also these new voters are more open, and daring to voice out their opinions, who do not wish to be treated as, nor see other Malaysians being treated as second class citizens. This is a new generation of Malaysians!!

Not Malay Malaysians nor Chinese Malaysians nor Indian Malaysians, we are the 3rd or 4th generation born here on this soil since Malaysia achieved her independence 50 years ago, we don't see ourselves as illegal immigrants, and we want equality... And that's where BN missed out...
